About FBC

How to Become a Christian

First Baptist is a Christian church. We work together to understand and follow the teachings of Jesus the Christ. We believe Jesus is the Son of God, and through trust in Him we are able to live in a way pleasing to God. We believe the Bible to be God’s guide to living the Christian life. As we hear the teachings of Jesus in The Gospels, we gain insight and strength to live as we best understand for God. If you are interested in becoming a Christian, there are some places one may begin in the Bible for understanding how.

Our Shortcomings

We all live in some ways contrary to God’s wishes. We call these shortcomings “sins.”

“ ….All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” Romans 3:23

Jesus began his ministry on earth by asking people to repent:

“. . .the kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe in the good news.” (Mark 1:14-15)

Repentance is literally accepting and turning one’s life to God’s way, thus rejecting our sinful choices. You may make this commitment by praying to Jesus, asking him to forgive your sins and tell him of your desire to commit your life to God.

Becoming Christian means we grow in our ability to trust Jesus the Christ as our way of pleasing God.

“. . .they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:24)

Baptism and Church Membership

Traditionally, a commitment to God through Jesus is signified in the act of baptism. Jesus was baptized (Mark 1:9). Baptism also allows the church to celebrate one’s commitment and be supportive of one’s efforts.

Committing one’s life to God through Jesus is only the beginning in becoming Christian. Understanding the Christian faith is the journey of a lifetime. We invite you to become a part of the community of faith at First Baptist and learn with us what it means to become Christian. Join us for Bible study, worship and ministry.
